That's That With That -- Well, I just noted that August has about two hours left to go here on the east coast, and even with another week or so of vacation for the kids, it seems like another summer has come and gone.

It's been an exciting summer for me. A lot of great comics came out, I got to write about them here on the site, and I got to watch as Chris Hunter slid magnificently into the role of Editor-in-Chief for Comic Book Galaxy.

It was also the summer of the big relaunch, and with only minor numps in the road, I am thrilled with our new schedule of regular columns and our fortified review team, covering the best in comics on a near-daily basis.

Summer is actually my least-favourite season. Allergies, humidity, heat and discomfort are the keywords it brings to mind for me, but the changing of any season seems to creep in as a reminder of mortality. In my case, a mortality I've been trying ever harder to stave off -- a recent doctor's visit revealed some negative indications related to my diabetes, and that's weighed pretty heavily on my mind the past week. I'm on a new prescription to help improve things, but it's the sort of thing where I don't feel any better or worse, and the only indication will come in lab tests months from now. It's strange, the unreachable universe that goes on within us, a faraway place that could be no closer. A place we can affect, but only truly glimpse by inference, guesswork, and astonishing medical technology.

A place that can kick you in the teeth, just like the passing of one season into another.

Right now the two best things in my life are my family and KOCHALKAHOLIC!. I'm trying to stay positively focused on those things, because they've brought me a lot of joy in the past couple of weeks, a period where joy has not always been easy to access.

Anyway, if you haven't checked out my new blog, please click over and give it a look. Not sure really how much longer this one will remain active. The change of seasons makes everything seem so ephemeral, doesn't it?

And finally, it just occurred to me that September 1st, 2005 is the fifth anniversary of Comic Book Galaxy. My profound thanks to those of you who have read, supported and enjoyed the site over the past half-decade.

Update: Thanks to Galaxy 2000 founding contributor Johanna Draper Carlson for her kind words on today's anniversary.
