Live from the Red Room -- My favourite room in the house we moved in to last Thursday is the living room, which my wife painted what I'd call "Twin Peaks Red" the week before we moved in. It's a red with some sort of wash effect over it, and it's become my favourite room in the house. It's also the place where the computer, TV and DVD player are, so I can imagine this will be a place where I'll be hanging out a lot. It's really neat.

My kids seem most excited about the big back yard, which probably is twice the size of the footprint of the actual house, grassy, lined by trees but filled with open space and bordered at the back by woods. Despite the fact that fall is here and it's actually getting cold, they play outside as much as possible, and pretty much have to be dragged in at the end of the day.

My wife is most thrilled about the entire project. She's been an avid watcher of home improvement shows on cable for about as long as we've been together, and little did I guess that she was preparing for this very time in our lives. But at every step, her instincts, tastes and desires have resulted in this whole thing making our lives better. I really have to hand it to her, she gets all the credit for how happy my kids are in their new home.

Now, moving and moving in are two different things, and the first was a bit easier than the second. We had some minor, unforeseen problems with the house -- no heat or hot water for the first few days, that was the worst -- and I'm definitely behind schedule when it comes to Comic Book Galaxy. I did plan ahead just before the move, though, which is why my shiny new Five Questions for Mark Millar went up yesterday at, and why another one should appear this Friday morning. I hope you're enjoying the new, improved, bi-weekly 5Q as much as I am. I've been having a blast with these and Matt Brady has been terrific in making them look as good as possible and getting them up in a timely manner -- and sometimes even better, as in the case of yesterday's "extra" edition.

Finally, I received this "Get To Know Me" quiz in my e-mail while we were moving, and actually got around to completing and sending it out yesterday. Feel free to copy it, change the answers to your own, and e-mail it to your family and friends; I'd be delighted if you sent a copy to me, too:
This is what you're supposed to do...and try not to be LAME and spoil
the fun! Just give in. Copy (not forward) this entire e-mail and paste it
into a new email. Don't forget to delete out all the other email addresses so
this doesn't get impossibly long. Change all of the answers so that they
apply to you. Then, send this to a whole bunch of people you know *INCLUDING*
the person who sent it to you. The theory is that you will learn a lot of
little known facts about your friends. It is fun and easy.

1. Full Name: Alan David Doane
2. Were you named after anyone? No.
3. Do you wish on stars? No.
4. When did you last cry? Last week. I'm a big pussy.
5. Do you like your handwriting? No. My printing has no style to
speak of and my cursive went missing years ago.
6. What is your favorite lunchmeat? None, definitely. My favourite
sandwich currently is grilled mushrooms and onions with swiss cheese
on a hardroll.
7. What is your birth date? January 25th, 1966.
8. What is your most embarrassing CD? Buffy the Musical. "I've got a
theory, that it's a demon -- a dancing demon. No, something isn't
right there..."
9. If you were another person, would YOU be friends with you? Yes,
but my confrontational nature would cause constant tension. Ask
10. Are you a daredevil? No.
11. Have you ever told a secret you swore not to tell? Not since I
was in the single digits.
12. Do looks matter? Depends on the context, I guess.
13. How do you release anger? Profanity, mostly. I think that's what
it was invented for.
14. Where is your second home? I barely have a FIRST home. I really
like visiting Northampton, Mass. and Burlington, Vermont, though.
16. What was your favorite toy as a child? Mego action figures -- had
probably 90 percent of all of 'em.
17. What class in high school do you think was totally useless? All
of them. Everything I know I learned on my own.

Room instead of The Living Room, and is in fact my favourite room of
my entire life.
28. What is your least favorite thing about yourself? My tendency
toward uncertainty.
29. Who do you miss most? My mom, probably. I only cried a little
when she died, but about three months later my wife and I were
discussing moving to a new apartment and it hit me like a brick that I
could never, ever ask ger advice or opinion again for all the rest of
my life. I was wracked with grief and uncontrollable sobs for probably
an hour after that, maybe the most torn open I've ever felt in my
30. Do you want everyone you send this to send it back? Yeah.
31. What color pants are you wearing? Blue jeans.
32. What are you listening to right now? My bootleg Buffy the Musical
DVD is on right now, and Tara is singing "Under Your Spell." I can't
believe they got away with the "You make me come...plete" gag on
network TV.

34. If you were a crayon, what color would you be? Red.
35. What is the weather like right now? Cool, sunny and autumnal.
36. Last person you talked to on the phone: Marshall.
37. The first thing you notice about the opposite sex? The rear parking lot.
38. Do you like the person who sent this to you? Mark Millar, and
yeah, he's one of my favourite people, just a totally real and sincere
guy who loves what he does.

and moving in.

42. Hair Color? Dark brown, with a touch of gray.
43. Eye Color? A stunning, piercing blue that blazes with passion
and intelligence. I wish.
44. Do you wear contacts? No. I couldn't bear to think about poking
myself in the eye on purpose, and besides, I grew up with Superman --
glasses are a lifelong dream. AND they make my eyes blaze with passion
and intelligence!
45. Favorite Food? There' a thai place that opened recently in our
town that is just fantastic. I also like chinese and mexican.
46. Last Movie You Watched? Super-Size Me. Brilliant documentary.
47. Favorite Day Of The Year? Honestly, they all seem quite the same to me.
48. Scary Movies Or Happy Endings? Anything that displays vision and
intelligence will win me over.
49. Summer Or Winter? Fall, actually.
50. Hugs OR Kisses? Hugs.
51. What Is Your Favorite Dessert? Ice cream, probably, although pie is nice.

53. Who Is Least Likely To Respond? Chris Allen's also in the midst
of moving, so I won't hold my breath.

cat now that we have a full house and yard.
55. What Book(s) Are You Reading? The Complete Peanuts Volume Two,
re-reading Alan Moore's Voice of the Fire.
56. What's On Your Mouse Pad? Don't use one, I have a trackball that
I am quite fond of.
57. What Did You Watch Last night on TV? Nothing, my wife was
watching 7th Heaven, which makes me violently ill.
58. Favorite Smells? Vanilla.
59. Rolling Stones or Beatles? Beatles
60. Do you believe in Evolution or Creationism? Evolution, although I
recognize that the theory isn't entirely consistent.
61. What's the furthest you've been from home? I've spent most of my
life in upstate New York, but lived in Florida for about 8 years.
Visited Ohio and Montreal on vacations.

That's all for this edition of Live from the Red Room; I'm going to go watch the rest of the Cheney/Edwards "debate" on C-Span (a rerun from last night, I was too sleepy to stay up and watch it live). Enjoy your New Comics Day -- and that reminds me, please remember to pick up today's two most notable releases, BLOOD ORANGE #3 from Fantagraphics and DEMO #10 from AiT/PlanetLar. Two very different comics, but both, in their own ways, pushing comics forward.

We've Moved -- Not the site, me and my family. Started last Thursday, and completed major combat operations this morning as the cable and Roadrunner were hooked up and the wonky furnace and hot water heater were made operational. It's been hell heck, but things are starting to come together nicely. If you have review copies you've been wanting to send, the address is now:

Alan David Doane
Comic Book Galaxy Reviews
24 Larose Street
Glens Falls NY 12801

I doubt we'll have anything new up on the site tomorrow as I had originally hoped, because a lot of little details remain to be attended to -- so thanks for your patience and hopefully we'll be back running at full power quickly.
